Vermont Winter Residence Design: Chrissy Ritter Design // Builder: Smith & McClain // Architect: Joan Heaton Architects // Woodworker: Wooden Hammer
This Vermont renovation brought together an incredible team effort—photographed for a NYC-based interior designer with Vermont roots, with the architect, builder, and woodworker all participating in a cost-sharing approach that’s becoming increasingly popular in architecture and design photography.
The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. We shot on one of those magical Vermont “snowglobe days” where the snow creates beautifully even light throughout the house, making exposure control effortless. I supplemented with some off-camera flash to add depth, but the winter conditions gave us that soft, consistent light that’s a photographer’s dream. The snow even complemented the styling perfectly…those frozen apples as decoration felt like they belonged in this winter wonderland setting.
Working with Chrissy Ritter Design made the entire day flow seamlessly. When a designer is that collaborative and easy to work with, it shows in the final images. The shoot was designed to serve both portfolio development and social media marketing, capturing not just the beautiful renovation details but the serene winter atmosphere that makes Vermont homes so special.
